Dutch Occupation 1691: Entire letter written in Dutch, with translated transcript in English
also, writtenn from Pondichery to Cochin by Isaac van Dielen, commandant of the Malabar Coast soon after the period of Dutch Occupation (1691-1698). The letter is addressed to the Honourable Council of Police with thanks "for that which was needed
for the War", whilst requesting and expecting to receive gunpowder and more ammunition together with food (30-40 pigs) and a complaint about the size of the pumpkins. Illustrated in the London Philatelist, vol. 119, page 333. The outer letter sheet

Pondichery from Madras, mailed back to Rome and carried by a ship from the "La Compagnie de Calonne" via the Cape to L'Orient. Reverse with Forwarding Agent notation "L'Orient le 7bre 1786 - sous couvert de votre tres humble and obedient serviteurs
