It is the last Messageries impériales voyage with overland Egypt transit. Since this voyage, Suez Canal was adopted. 2012 (Jul) Spink Auction 12032, lot 1286.

2137 cover image1847 Tasmania (7 Apr) to Shanghai. Entire letter, rated “8”, applied with Hobart Town GPO cds, alongside with framed “Bearing” h.s. Transit Hong Kong (26 Jun). Realized at HKD$36,800, it is the fourth example of this Bearing cachet recorded by Dr. Andrew Cheung while one of them is in the Hong Kong Museum of History. Extremely rare postmark.

1847.4.7 塔斯曼尼亞寄上海。郵簡，寫有郵資“8”，鈐Hobart Town郵政總局日戳，旁蓋“Bearing”橫戳。6.26經香港。 此為張文德記錄之第四件Bearing戳例子，曾以港幣36,800拍出，而另有一例藏於香港歷史博物館。極罕。(Image 1) (Image 2)

Given the late arrival of Layd Mary Wood, this mail was carried by HMS Espeigle.
