After the fall of Hong Kong, mails f.w. stamps of “enemy counties” (including British Hong Kong) were detained by the Japanese until their surrender in Sep 1945. After the war, 7 bags of detained mails were found and applied
with boxed “Detained in Hong Kong by Japanese From December 1941 to September 1945” h.s. for re-delivery. Among these mails, those with arrival cds which can prove their successful delivery after the war (instead of kept by collectors) are
particularly scarce. 1941 North Borneo (5 Aug) to Liuchow, detained in Hong Kong, f.w. British North Borneo 4c x3 + one dropped stamp on reverse, tied by North Borneo cds. Censored and resealed with “PASSED BY 33 CENSOR NORTH BORNEO” mark. Applied
with return and “DETAINED IN HONGKONGBY JAPANESE FROM DECEMBER 1941 TO SEPTEMBER 1945” cachet. Arrived Liuchow with unclear date, probably 1945.
Detained in Hong Kong by Japanese
From December 1941 to September 1945”戳記重新送遞。 另見退回章及“DETAINED IN HONGKONGBY JAPANESE FROM DECEMBER 1941 TO SEPTEMBER 1945”戳記。 (Image 1)

1941 (26 Sep) Return receipt of a mail from Hawaii to Likiang, then detained at Hong Kong when sending back to Hawaii, applied with Honolulu origin cds. Transit Kunming and arrived Likiang (24 Oct). Then the receipt was sent
back to sender via Hong Kong but detained with scarce “DETAINED IN HONGKONGBY JAPANESE FROM DECEMBER 1941 TO SEPTEMBER 1945”. Given the last flight leaving Hong Kong was on 30 Nov, this receipt took about a month to arrive at Hong Kong.
隨後回執經香港回程夏威夷但被扣留,鈐稀罕之“DETAINED IN HONGKONGBY JAPANESE FROM DECEMBER 1941 TO SEPTEMBER 1945”戳記。 (Image 1)
