variety stamp. According to the record of Spink China, one sheet of 40 was released, of these record 24 unused, 6 used and 2 covers were recorded. Provenance: John Agnew (private sale) Sir Percival David, November 1969 (in the block of nineteen) 2019

1897年慈壽初版加蓋小字4分蓋4分銀四方連新連左過橋邊紙，帶加蓋複蓋及透印變異（陳目40f），原膠輕貼。背面帶有Peter Holcombe簽署。著名之“四複八倒”之一。此變異票共有一版四十枚存世，按斯賓克中國之統計，曾見24枚新票、6枚舊票及兩件信封。 源流﹕ John Agnew（私人購入） 1969年大維德爵士（原十九方連） 2019.1.18 斯賓克中國，林文琰小龍、慈壽及其加蓋票專場，拍品號709。落槌價60萬港元。 記載﹕ Philatelic

 1897 Empress Dowager surch Small Figure 1c/1ca with inverted ovpt variety (Chan 38d). MNH with original gum. It is believed that 80 of this varieyt stamp exist (2 panes of 40) and only one fourth of them remain mint as most of
thm were used by Hankow pakua, dollar or customs cancel.
1897年慈壽加蓋小字1分蓋1分銀新，帶加蓋倒蓋變異（陳目38d），原膠無貼。小字加蓋1分倒蓋票相信存世僅八十枚（兩盤格各四十枚），當中僅約四分一為新票，餘大多銷漢口八卦戳、大圓戳或海關戳。經典之“四複八倒”之一。(Image 1)
