61 o image1897 Empress Dowager 1st Print surch large figure, narrow spaced 2c/2ca green "The Emerald Lady"(Chan 67), used by Shanghai Dollar cds. Overprint character "2" with flat tail which indicates position 14 of pane IV. It the is only known example from this cliche. With Experts and Consultants Ltd COA submitted by Zurich Asia. Ex- Huang Ming Jeng. 1998 China Guardian Spring sale no. 1845. On 1 May 1897, small quantity of Empress Dowager 1st Print were recalled from remote cities and surcharged with large figure and narrow spaceing. 2c/2ca, nicknamed "The Emerald Lady" is one of the key denominations of the series (while another key denomination is 30c/24ca). Mizuhara recorded only two mint stamps while one more mint stamp was found later. Used stamps are also rarity which should never be missed by specialist.

1897年慈壽初版加蓋大字短距2分蓋2分銀“翡翠姐”舊票（陳目67），銷上海大圓戳。加蓋“2”字扁尾，可見出自第四盤格10號子模。此為存世例子中唯一一枚已知帶有此子模特徵之例子。附由蘇黎世亞洲提交之香港專家顧問公司證書。黃明正舊藏。1998年中國嘉德春季拍賣1845號。 1897年5月1日，一小批慈壽初版票從偏遠城市收回，並以大字短距加蓋改值。俗稱“翡翠姐”的2分蓋2分銀為當中的關鍵面值之一（另一為3角蓋24分銀）。水源明窗記錄新票存世僅兩枚，另有一枚於十多年前發現。即使是舊票亦為一大華郵珍品，乃系慈壽專家不可或缺之珍品。(Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)

64 * image1897 Empress Dowager surch large figure, narrow spaced 30c on later second printing 24ca (Chan 81), MH with original gum, featuring clean perforation and bold impression. Very fine rare stamp. 2025 (May) Kelleher and Rogers sold large figure narrow spaced 30c at HKD$40,000. This example, however, is of even better condition.

With philatelist name seal on reverse. One of the famous Empress Dowager varieties. 3 panes in total of 240 stamps exist. Double variety examples such as this one, are especially scarce.

69 * image1897 Empress Dowager re-drawn design surch large figure, narrow spaced 2c on 2ca in horizontal pair with left margin, impef between varriety (Chan 83a), position 9 and 10 of pane I. MH with original gum. Only one complete sheet with this variety was known which means 15 pair exist at most. 12 pairs, included this pair, were recorded. 1980 (Feb) Brum Pederson. 2019 (18 Jan) Spink China, The Lam Man Yin Collection of Small Dragons, Dowagers and 1897 Surcharges, lot 888, realized HKD$60,000.

1897慈壽改版加蓋大字短距2分蓋2分銀橫雙連新帶左邊紙，中縫漏齒變異（陳目83a），洋字分別破版及凹點，出自第一盤格第9及第10位置。此變異目前僅發現一全張，換言之最多僅十五件橫雙連存世，當中十二件（包含此件）已有所記錄。 1980.2 Brum Pederson 2019.1.18 斯賓克中國，林文琰小龍、慈壽及其加蓋票專場，拍品號888。落槌價6萬港元。(Image 1) (Image 2)

Transit Shanghai (2 Oct). In combination with Japanese Koban 5s, tied by IJPO Shanghai (2 Oct). Transit Yokohama (10 Oct), San Francisco (30 Oct). Arrived Philadelphia (4 Nov). Late example of IJPO concessinoary rate 5s to USA. This rate was only applicable to mails to Japan after 30 Sep.

1897.9.26 福州寄美國，貼慈壽後期再版加蓋大字短距1角蓋12分銀，帶破“銀”字變異，銷福州大圓戳。10.2經上海。加貼日本小判5錢，銷上海日局10.2日戳。10.10經橫濱，10.30經三藩市。11.4抵費城。日本客郵局寄美國5錢特惠郵資之晚期例子。在9月30日後，此特惠郵資僅適用於寄日本郵件。(Image 1) (Image 2)
