42 o    19 image1857, 1¢ blue, type Ia (19), position 99L4, fresh and virtually perfectly centered with ball ornaments clearly visible at bottom, stunning deep color, faint cancel, Extremely Fine.
Scott $9,000

AN EXCEPTIONAL PERFORATED TYPE IA FROM PLATE 4 WITH PERFORATIONS THAT ARE ALMOST CLEAR AT TOP AND BOTTOM, ALLOWING THE TYPE CHARACTERISTICS TO BE PLAINLY VISIBLE AND POSSESSING PROOFLIKE COLOR AND FRESHNESS AS WELL.

Expertization: 2004 P.F. Certificate.

Provenance: "Liberty".

The bottom row of the short-lived plate 4 perforated presents one of the greatest frustrations for the 1¢ collector. This bottom row is the only row that produced the type Ia stamps (18 positions out of a possible 2000), the most striking feature of which is the complete design at the bottom. Yet in almost every case the perforations at the bottom cut away these characteristics because the perforating machine were not adjusted to allow for the larger design of the bottom row stamps.

SOLD for $4,750.00
Will close during Public Auction
43 o    19 image1857, 1¢ blue, type Ia (19), position 91L4, incredibly well centered with the perforations completely clear of the design all around, stunning rich color, bold c.d.s., small corner creases lower left, including one ending in tiny tear, none visible to naked eye, Extremely Fine appearance. SMQ $8,200.
Scott $9,000

WITH ITS AMAZING CENTERING AND LARGE MARGINS, WHICH ALLOW THE ALL IMPORTANT TYPE CHARACTERISTICS TO FULLY SHOW, THIS IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST APPEARING EXAMPLES OF A PERFORATED TYPE IA.

Expertization: 1969 P.F. and 2011 P.S.E. Certificates, the latter graded F-VF 75.

Provenance: Neinken, Wagshall. (Image)
Scott $9,000
SOLD for $3,000.00

44 (*)    19b, 21 image1857, 1¢ blue, types Ic & III (19b, 21), combination pair, positions 47-48L4, exceptionally well centered with design characteristics clearly showing, deep rich color and a strong impression, unused without gum, Extremely Fine and choice. Listed but not priced as a pair.
Scott $8,750 as singles

A MAGNIFICENT EXAMPLE OF THIS EXCEPTIONALLY RARE UNUSED COMBINATION PAIR—QUITE LIKELY THE FINEST EXTANT.

Expertization: 1999 P.S.E. and 2002 P.F. Certificates.

Provenance: "Liberty".

There are only six positions on the plate that will yield a se-tenant pair of types Ic and III. Because the clichés were closely placed on the plate, most multiples have perforations impinging on the key parts of the design, making positive identification very difficult.
