204 Newspaper Wrapper Stamps. 1870 ½d Die proof (LW2) in black on white glazed card, reduced to 22x35mm, on piece cut from the De La Rue striking book endorsed "Jan 27, 120", a little rubbed; and ½d stamps type LW2 (22) or LW4 on various coloured papers all cut from Admiralty Enrolment lettersheets, used (16) or unused (7), scarce. (24).

205 1922 (Aug 30) 2d Envelope with triangular handstamp "D / E.C" to show a refund of ½d was provided when rates reduced in May 1922, the envelope then valid at 1½d only. Unusually posted to Germany, registered, franked 4½d, paying the correct 6d rate (3d postage + 3d registration). Light wax seal stain, otherwise fine and scarce used abroad.

207 image1855 Post Office Notice bearing embossed 4d, 6d and 1/- stamps dated 7/12/55 or 8/12/55 (4d) each overprinted "SPECIMEN" (type PS3), on laid paper watermarked "JOYNSON / 1855", "EMBOSSED POSTAGE STAMPS to be struck upon / Paper and Envelopes" and "26th NOVEMBER, 1855" printed below the stamps, 131x87mm. Printed to Private Order stationery with 1d, 2d, 4d, 6d and 1/- dies were permitted from October 1855; the 1d and 2d dies already appeared on Post Office stationery, and this notice was therefore sent to Postmasters to make them aware of the three new values to be found on envelopes. 209 image1866 Proofs prepared by De La Rue for display at the 1867 Paris Exhibition, comprising 2d, 3d, 4d, 6d and 1/- on white paper dated 8/3/66, 1d on white paper, 1d, 2d, 3d, 4d, 6d and 1/- on blue paper dated 16/3/66. 210 1888 Page ruled into squares for differing value stamps with light pencil heading "Impressed upon paper. Postage stamps supplied by De La Rue", with 1½d brown, 2d pale blue and 2½d lake stamps dated 4/12/88 each overprinted "CANCELLED / STAMP", 202x329mm. A rare page, probably impressed to test the impression of the die or check the colour against the colour standard prior to printing. Huggins & Samuel only record this overprint (PS10) used in 1888 (on three similar pages, with 4-8 dies), and state it was used by the Inland Revenue.

211 1892 Colour Standard sheet with the nine embossed values from 1d to 1/-, the 1d and 10d undated, 1½d, 2d and 2½d dated 16/2/92, 3d, 4d and 1/- dated 15/2/92, the 6d dated 15/1/92 with the month unchanged presumably in error, all stamps handstamped "SPECIMEN" PS9. Vertical and horizontal folds (one through the 2d), otherwise fine and very scarce, 247x167mm.

212 1894 Colour Standard sheet with the ten embossed values from ½d orange to 1/-, 1d and 10d undated, 1½d, 4d and 6d with nine dot florets, 2d, 2½d, 3d and 1/- with five dot florets, each handstamped "SPECIMEN" (PS9, inverted on the 4d), royal arms embossed at left, small piece cut from right edge clear of stamps, very scarce, 273x204mm.

213 1898 Colour standard sheet with two impressions each of the 1½d, 2d, 2½d, 3d, 4d and 1/- with both five and nine dot florets (no 6d as the sheet was produced after the 6d with florets with replaced by the modified design), each handstamped "SPECIMEN" PS11, 280x225mm. A rare and unusual sheet with both floret types for each stamp, the 1½d and 4d stamps with five dot floret only recorded in colour standard sheets.
