Also a 1919 (Dec 23) certificate signed by Butler stating Mr N.H Pearse had an aerial flight with Butler, real Photo of Butler and his crew in front of their aircraft "Red Devil" in 1919, and three Liberty Loan labels. 541 image1929 (June 20) Registered cover to Melbourne, flown from Darwin to Sydney in the DH50 "Atalanta" piloted by Capt. Lester Brain, which was sent to find S.J. Moir and H.C Owen who had flown from England but crashed near Cape Don Lighthouse. Moir and Owen were located on May 26th and a ship was diverted to take them to Darwin; they were then flown to Sydney on the "Atalanta", the first Qantas plane to visit Darwin. Endorsed "Per Atalanta Darwin to Sydney" and signed by Owen and Moir, 1½d + 3d stamps cancelled in Sydney, the addressees name deleted in ink, otherwise fine and scarce, twenty covers flown. 542 image1929 (Mar 30) Kingsford Smith and Harry Ulm "Southern Cross" flight to England, stampless cover addressed (in the handwriting of Charles Ulm?) to T. Robbins, c/o Rio Tinto Co. Ltd in London, endorsed "O.K G.P.U" by Ulm, with Richmond c.d.s and London (July 12) arrival datestamp. Kingsford Smith and his crew lost their way and made a forced landing in remote north-west Australia, largely surviving on coffee and brandy (known as the Coffee Royal episode) until found on April 12th; the "Southern Cross" resumed its flight from Derby on June 25th arriving in London on July 10th, a record time of 12 days 14 hours. A fine and rare cover from one of the most famous flights from Australia to England , just twelve covers flown. E.131/142, $2,750. Photo on Page 74. (Image1)
