232 1794-1837 Entire letters from various official bodies which did not have the franking privilege, therefore charged postage, including the Victualling Office (2, one a printed O.H.M.S wrapper, the other in manuscript with experimental boxed "POST / PAID" datestamp, Jay 97 used April-July 1794 only), Customs (also an 1825 notice stating letters should be headed "On the Service of the Customs" although postage still had to be paid), Commissioners of Charities, Uniformity of Weights and Measures (printed wrapper), etc. Also an 1839 letter franked on behalf of the Court of Bankruptcy. (9)

239 Prize Department, Navy Pay Office. 1804-13 Entires comprising a printed Navy Pay Office wrapper with manuscript "Prize Department", a printed Prize Department wrapper, and a wrapper with the inscription and heading entirely handwritten, all with Free datestamps. Also an unused printed Navy Pay Office wrapper with manuscript "Free J.D Boswell, Prize matters" endorsed "This form is proper and agreeable with act, AC", apparently a proof and very scarce. (4).

240 Ordnance Office/Quarter Master General. c.1804-34 Lettersheets including an unusual unused "Ordnance Office" lettersheet with signature of John Angell (Chief Clerk to the Surveyor General) below the printed "On His Majestys Service" heading (submitted as a Specimen to the Post Office?), 1816 free letter from the Ordnance Office with manuscript heading and inscription, printed Ordnance Office or Quarter Master Generals Office lettersheets with Free datestamps, also an 1834 letter from Dublin to the Secretary of the Board of Ordnance in London with Dublin and London Frees, and 1804 Act granting franking to the Ordnance Office and Quarter Master General. (6).

241 Paymaster General. 1837-39 Printed wrappers, the first a large part wrapper (sides, lower flap removed) with printed address "To The Paymaster General, Whitehall, London" and "For Chelsea Hospital", boxed "No. 1" handstamp with "Wincanton / 5" Cl. Post" on reverse; the second unusually with the "On Her Majestys Service" heading and "OFFICE OF HER MAJESTYS / PAYMASTER GENERAL" printed in blue. (2).

242 imageWaterloo Subscription. 1816 (Sep 21) Entire letter from the Waterloo Subscription Office posted within London, with scarce "WATERLOO / SUBSCRIPTION", red "Lombard St / 2py P. Paid" and a Two Penny Paid datestamp on reverse. The letter states that the fund is for the benefit of widows only, and no other relatives of soldiers killed. The second line of the handstamp faint in places, otherwise fine and very scarce. Photo on Page 44. (Image1)

243 Land Tax Redemption. 1812-14 Printed L.T.R entires, the first two with "Post Paid", an unused form with 1814 (Jan 17) printed letter stating that in future L.T.R letters may pass free of postage under the frank of Francis Freeling, and an 1814 (Jan 18) "L.T.R Post Paid" entire posted just one day after this notice with "Post Paid" crossed out and the signature of Freeling, a Free datestamp applied. Also an 1809 L.T.R letter sent free by Lord Glenbervie, and three 1814-19 entire letters with manuscript L.T.R (2) or "Land Tax" all signed by Freeling, Free datestamps. A scarce and interesting group. (8).

245 Merchant Seaman. 1836 (Apr 30) Printed "Register Office of Merchant Seamen" lettersheet, O.H.M.S heading with "Pursuant to an Act of Parliament of the 5th and 6th year of King William the Fourth", sent free to the owner of the "Scotia" at Wick. The printed letter asks for a list of the crew to be sent by return. Also the 1835 Act on the Register of Merchant Seamen. Very scarce. (2).
