EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS SPECTACULAR MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1887 3-CENT VERMILION AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE IS GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E.
The 3c Vermilion can be found with wide margins, but rarely with wide margins and precise centering. This corner-margin example in Mint N.H. condition -- perfectly centered within enormous balanced margins -- is a true "miracle" stamp.
Ex Dr. Morris and "Westchester". With 1991 P.F. and 2007 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $6,750.00). Only one has graded higher (at 100J, we have never offered it) and no others share this grade. (Image)

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A MAGNIFICENT MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1888 4-CENT CARMINE AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT VALUES OF THE SERIES TO OBTAIN IN SUCH SUPERB CONDITION. THIS STAMP IS GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E. -- THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
With 2006 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $9,500.00). This is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only one other (offered in our 2017 "Clipper City" sale). (Image)

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A PHENOMENAL MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1888 5-CENT AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE, SCOTT 216, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. -- ONLY ONE HAS GRADED HIGHER.
The 5c Garfield was first issued in 1882 in shades of Brown. When the colors were changed in 1888, the 5c was released in a beautiful Indigo shade. Although unused copies are by no means scarce, Mint N.H. examples are very scarce, and higher grades in Mint N.H. condition are exceedingly rare.
With 2016 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $5,250.00). Only one has graded higher (at 98J) and only four others share this desirable grade. (Image)

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT 1888 AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS GRADE.
The 1888 American Bank Note Company Issue in new colors (Scott 215-218) was the last of the Large Bank Note series that spanned two decades from 1870 until 1890, when the Small Bank Note Issue was released. The 90c is extremely difficult to obtain in such superb condition.
Ex Hoffman. With 2019 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $12,500.00). This is the highest grade awarded and the only example to achieve this desirable grade. Apart from this stamp, the highest grade we have offered in our auctions is an 85, back in 2006. (Image)
