90c Carmine (155). With bottom plate no. 23
selvage, original gum, rich color in true deep National shade, wide margins VERY FINE. A RARE PLATE NUMBER SINGLE OF THE 1870 90-CENT UNGRILLED NATIONAL BANK NOTE ISSUE. This Bank Note Issue is one of the scarcest with a plate number.
Power Search contains only one other example with a plate number (single, block or strip), a top-margin single offered in our 1966 "Ambassador" sale. The Chapin census lists three strips, but at least one of them is Scott 166, not 155. With 2000
P.F. and 2000 and 2006 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, VF 80; SMQ $5,000.00 with no premium for the plate number). (Image) Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com
