1424 c Image24c Purple (153). Used with 2c Red Brown (146) and 30c Black (154), tied by quartered cork cancels with "Northampton Mass. Apr. 29" (1873) circular datestamp on cover to Byculla Bombay, India and forwarded to Calcutta with pair India, 1855, 1a Brown (12), red "New York Apr. 30 *" circular datestamp, crayon "48/2" credit and "2" Colonial rate which ties the 24c stamp, red London Paid transit datestamp (May 13), Sea Post Office, Bombay and Calcutta arrival backstamps, receipt docketing of June 10, 1873, 30c stamp with minor corner creases and bottom 1a stamp with small fault at bottom, small cover repair under 30c

VERY FINE. A SPECTACULAR FOUR-COLOR MIXED FRANKING TO INDIA, WITH 1870 ISSUE BANK NOTE STAMPS PAYING THE DOUBLE RATE VIA BRITISH MAIL AND 1855-64 ONE-ANNA INDIA STAMPS PAYING FORWARDING POSTAGE.

The rate to India by British Mail via Brindisi was 28c beginning on January 1, 1871. This is the only cover with mixed U.S.-India regular postage we have encountered.
