Nov. 23" circular datestamp, additional strike at left on light yellow cover to London, England and forwarded to Cairo, Egypt, stamp also tied by red "3" credit handstamp, red "London DE 6, 1860", Lombard Street and Cairo (18 Dec.) datestamps all struck on the front of the cover, stamp has tiny tears at top left, cover has small central toned spot, minor edgewear and missing top flap, otherwise Very Fine and unusual forwarded usage, ex Haas and "Sevenoaks", with 1999 P.F. certificate (Image)

FINE. ONE OF THREE RECORDED 10-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL COVER TO SYRIA WITH A TRIPLE FRANKING. THIS IS THE ONLY COVER TO SYRIA WITH THE SKULL FANCY CANCEL OF NEWARK.

The 30c French Mail rate to Syria was in effect until December 31, 1869. There are ten 10c 1869 covers to Syria (eight listed in the 1869 PRA Census), but only two were prepaid 30c for the French Mail rate while it was in effect. The cover offered here is the only example with three stamps sent via North German Union Mail, despite the printed route instructions at lower left.
