Feb. 19, 1864" double-circle datestamp on embossed Valentine to Patterson N.C., additional strike of different style of Spartanburg circular datestamp at right, with two original enclosures, one is handwritten note with scalloped edges datelined "College Hill", other is multicolored Valentine with hand written poem on back in the handwriting of the sender and mentioning the recipient by name -- "I'd fly to thee my Lettie dear" -- cover with few toned spots, otherwise Very Fine, a rare Confederate Valentine with an enclosure that can be confirmed as original to the cover (Image)

Co., Richmond Va." imprint (Richmond & Petersburg Railroad Co.), gently cleaned and small edge repairs, appears Extremely Fine, very scarce with the railroad imprint, this was the primary late-war railway serving General Lee's forces and was Richmond's major artery, we offered a similar but different style imprint cover in our Sale 1043 (lot 2488), ex Antrim with his backstamp, signed Brian Green, with 2017 P.F. certificate (Image)
