312		5c Red Brown (1). Vertical pair, rich color and beautiful proof-like impression, large margins, cancelled by bold complete strike of "STEAM" straightline handstamp EXTREMELY FINE. A SCARCE VERTICAL PAIR OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE WITH A PERFECT FULL STRIKE OF THE "STEAM" HANDSTAMP USED ON MISSISSIPPI RIVER STEAMBOAT MAIL. A MAGNIFICENT OFF-COVER 1847 ISSUE MULTIPLE. This "Steam" marking (or two similar markings) are found on Mississippi River steamboat covers that entered the post offices at Natchez and New Orleans. Illustrated in Chronicle 217 (p. 24).
