The advertisement, which is printed in various large bold fonts, reads in part: "Farmers!! I will pay liberal prices for a supply of pork, beef, lard and tallow, for the use of the North Carolina Rail Road Company. I will receive either of the above articles at several depots on our road and on the Western North Carolina Rail Road...Thos. Foster, Purchasing Agent, N.C.R.R., Salisbury, Dec. 21, 1863."
