1869 Pictorial Issue Inverts (Scott 119b-121b)

3347   Image15c Brown & Blue, Ty. II, Center Inverted (119b). Beautiful deep rich colors, prooflike impression, neat strike of crossroads cancel, tiny thin speck at top center, small sealed tear at top visible only in fluid, minor corner perf crease at top right

VERY FINE APPEARING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 15-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE INVERT. ONE OF THE MOST VISUALLY APPEALING EXAMPLES WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED, BY VIRTUE OF ITS FRESH COLORS, SHARP IMPRESSION AND LIGHT CANCELLATION.

Our recently-updated census of Scott 119b, available at our website at http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/119b/119b.pdf , records three unused and 97 used copies of Scott 119b (there are an additional three examples of Scott 119c). Two of the used copies are in institutions -- the Tapling Collection at the British Library and the Miller Collection at The New York Public Library.

3349   Image30c Ultramarine & Carmine, Flags Inverted (121b). Perfect centering with wide and balanced margins, quartered cork cancel on one half of stamp leaves inverted flag on other side completely unobscured, few small thin spots (one breaks thru grill point)

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE CENTERED EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE INVERT. ONLY 40 USED EXAMPLES ARE RECORDED IN OUR CENSUS.

Our recently updated census of 30c 1869 Inverts, available at http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/121b/121b.pdf , contains a total of 47 stamps, including 7 unused and 40 used (one in the Miller Collection at The New York Public Library). This stamp is one of the finest centered examples of all, and it has only minor thins that are not visible on the face of the stamp.
