Oval datestamp struck at exchange point on folded letter from New Market (Toronto) to Petersburgh N.Y., manuscript "Paid 9d + 2d" for Canadian postage between 100 and 200 miles plus 2d ferriage fee, crossed out at exchange point and rated "18-3/4" (cents) due for 150-400 miles rate, lengthy content in diminutive writing includes comment that the cross-border exchange through Lewiston N.Y. is faster and cheaper than via Kingston (2d ferriage instead of 3d ferriage), Very Fine use before the official ferriage rate began, also incl. a separate cover which was believed to be a cross-border 3d ferriage rate cover from Saugerties N.Y. to Kingston, Canada (contains an address flourish that looks like a "3"), but the 6c U.S. rate proves it was sent to Kingston N.Y. Six folded letters mounted on exhibit pages with detailed descriptions, each carried through the Lewiston N.Y. and Queenston (Niagara-on-the-Lake) Canada exchange points, four showing 2d ferriage rate charged by Canada during the official period of use, two mailed just after the ferriage rate was abolished on March 6, 1837, and so without the rate, incl. one from Scotland (edge splits throughout), all show a green Queenston double-circle or circular datestamp, range of destinations in Canada, originations from U.S. and manuscript postage rates, Very Fine and interesting group (Image)

Pd". for full prepayment of all postage and fees to New York, backstamped with bold "LIVERPOOL/ SHIP LETTER" and manuscript "1/7" for 8d ship letter fee and 11d inland postage to London, file fold, Very Fine, a beautiful ferriage-rate cross-border and transatlantic cover exchanged via Brockville Canada (which is approx. 60 miles from Franktown) and Morristown N.Y., if this had been exchanged at Kingston (74 miles away) the ferriage rate would have been 3d (Image)
