May 6 5PM 1881" duplex, cover soiled and small tear, letter is Very Fine, Chester Arthur's signature as Vice President is exceedingly rare, he was in office from March 4 to September 19, 1881, and assumed the presidency after Garfield died (during the two months that Garfield lingered after being shot, the presidential succession did not take place) (Image)
