Clear strike of red circular datestamp with matching "12-1/2" handstamp on Feb. 21 green folded letter from Havana, Cuba to New York, light horizontal file fold well away from markings, Very Fine, scarce, only two covers are reported with this rate marking used on contract steamship mail, Charleston started using rate handstamps (instead of manuscript) to indicate postage due in February 1849 but only for single-weight correspondence addressed to the U.S. (Image)
