2208 image1900 Fumigated cover from Honolulu During the Plague Epidemic, 1899 2c Rose (Scott 81) tied by Honolulu Apr 11 1900 duplex, addressed to W.J. Lowrie at Ewa Plantation and forwarded to Spreckelsville, Maui, two different Honolulu backstamps plus dated sender's handstamp - "M. S. GRINBAUM & CO. LTD", cover corners clipped and fumigated at Honolulu post office, some stains from fumigation and a corner crease. Fine and scarce. rnEwa Plantation Co. was established in 1890 with 11,000 acres of land and its first manager was W.J. Lowrie, serving until 1898. The first crop, harvested in 1892, produced 2,849 tons of sugar. After leaving Ewa, he became Postmaster at Spreckelsville and the manager of the Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co at Spreckelsville. rnM. Grinbaum & Co. was an importer, commercial merchant, sugar factor and insurance agent with offices in several cities, incl Honolulu. (Image 2) (Image1) 150-200
