4704 ogO   imageINDIA, A SUPER IN DEPTH COLLECTION,

An important collection housed on Minkus album pages, used to 1900 and mint thereafter, encompassing a high level of completion and very scarce items present that are usually missing from most collections. Highlights in the 19th century include the 1854 4a red and blue imperf, four margined (as are all the other imperfs) with light lozenge cancel, a very attractive stamp. Then all the perf issues of the 1850s and 1860s inc. the 8 pies purple on bluish paper (SG#51), 1865 8a carmine (#65) etc, followed by excellent officials (only missing 1 relatively insignificant issue for complete 19th century) including first 'service' o/ps to 8a with 1866 1/2a blue without watermark (#O1), 1a brown (#O3) a great copy, signed twice, then 2a orange (#O11) and both the 4a greens (#O13/O14) with light cancels. Then follow the scarce 1866 fiscals overprinted for official postage (#O15/O19) with the 1/2a and 2a used, , the 'long' 2a, 4a and 8a unused, the 2a with very minor faults, the 4a also with gum, with small thin nevertheless, very attractive appearance, then the 8a absolutely sound unused with excellent color, without faults, as far as we can see with hardly any of the surface rubbing associated with these issues. Regular issues resume with the 1866 green 'postage' o/ps on 1/2a revenues and all the rest of the QV issues complete. The collection continues in mint condition from 1900 onwards, in uniformly beautiful quality with vibrant colors hardly ever exposed to light. Other highlights include mint C.E.F. o/ps complete issued (#C1/C34), similarly with 1902/11 KEVII defins to 15r blue and olive (#119/147), KEVII officials complete to 25r (#O54/O72), KGV defins both 1911/22 and 1926/33 series complete to 25r (#151/191, #201/219) and again all the officials to 25r (#O73/O98), as well as the surcharges including the 2r on 10r (#O101a), leading on to the 1926/31 officials complete to 10r (#O109/O120) through KGVI defins, commems and officials all complete. Independent India is equally comprehensive, Gandhi to 10r, 1949 temples to 15r, etc., etc., all in tip-top condition. A wonderful near complete collection, virtually perfection of this increasingly popular country with enormous potential.
