SOLD for $750.00
Will close during Public Auction
50 c   image1844 60r black, type II, fine impression, pair partly cut into on one side, otherwise good margins, on Jun 15, 1845 folded letter endorsed "Pelo correio da Corte" from Rio Grande to Maranhão, showing light strikes of c.d.s. on dispatch, one tying the franking with the other repeated on front, vertical file fold impinging on one adhesive, an unusual origin; 2010 Moorhouse certificate; RHM 6. 53 c   image1845 60r black, type II, worn impression, cut slightly into at right, with large margins in other respects, on back of September 18, 1848 entire letter from Bahia to Rio de Janeiro, endorsed ''par Packet Angl. Express'', showing British ''Rio-Janeiro'' double arc datestamp of September 24 applied on front after the arrival of the British packet in the port, with the letter subsequently handed to the Brazilian post office where the franking was applied and tied by ''Correio Geral Da Corte'' c.d.s., from these features, it is deduced that this letter was doubtless handed straight to the British packet in Bahia without going into the Brazilian postal system, being a fascinating and rare postal history usage; 2010 Moorhouse certificate; RHM 6; ex-Hubbard. (Image) Est. $10,000-15,000

(Image) Est. $750-1,000

SOLD for $625.00

(Image) Est. $3,500-4,500

SOLD for $2,600.00

59 c   image1845 60r black, type II, worn impression, block of four printed on thin yellowish paper, large even margins all round, used in mixed franking with vertical pair featuring same types and impression but printed on greyish paper, slightly cut into at bottom with clear to mostly large margins on the other sides, tied by over-inked strikes of ''Correio Geral Da Corte'' datestamp on back of January 22, 1848 entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Rio Grande, the 360 Réis franking covering the fifth maritime rate not exceeding 1 1/2 ounce as per decree 254 of November 29, 1842; an extremely difficult combination, believed to be the only recorded usage on cover of two different papers of the same denomination; unquestionably an important and desirable item proving the existence of such mixed-paper frankings, one of the most important covers of this issue; 2010 Moorhouse certificate; RHM 6; ex-Benevides and Hubbard. (Image) Est. $60,000-70,000

60 c   image1845 60r black, type II, worn impression, and 30r black, type I, semi-worn impression, two examples of the former and one single of the latter, making up a 150 Réis franking paying the quadruple overland rate, on January 22, 1848 entire letter from Sabará to Rio de Janeiro, all stamps tied by ''Sabara'' straight-line handstamp, with ''Correio Geral Da Corte'' c.d.s. applied on arrival alongside; several imperfections affecting the cover as well as the adhesives, with basic repairs in places, of little importance for this significant item and being faults which plague this issue; to our knowledge, this is the only example of this combination franking recorded on cover, with the added importance of being the only cover known, in private hands, of the ''Inclinados'' issue, originating from Sabará, with another item in existence which, according to experts, cannot be conclusively stated to be genuine with confidence; 2010 Moorhouse certificate; RHM 5A, 6; ex-Benevides and Hubbard. (Image) Est. $2,000-2,500
