#151a, 1964 6p Blue and black, error of vignette "H.M.S. Glasgow" in place of "H.M.S. Kent", a wonderfully fresh and choice mint example of this extremely rare and popular Queen Elizabeth period error, well centered, o.g., never hinged, extremely fine; according to the note in the Stanley Gibbons catalog, "it is believed that No. 216a came from a sheet which was first printed with the centre of the 2½d. and then accidentally included among the supply of the 6d. value and thus received the wrong frame. there have been seventeen reports of stamps showing the error, although it is believed that some of these may refer to the same example," in addition some have been hinged by collectors who did not realize that they had an error when they received it as a new issue or otherwise compromised; 2012 RPS certificate (S.G. #216a; £40,000). #57, 1870 20c Blue, tied to special printed letter-sheet with "Par Ballon/Monte" & French Coat of Arms by partial "Paris/20 Dec 70" and star of points with numeral "1", posted to St. Lo and backstamped on Dec. 24th, the three pages for message are full with a long letter as communication was scarce during the siege of Paris, fine; this was flown on the Balloon Lavoisier which made its flight on December 22, 1870; 1964 PF certificate. #BM11/62,1870-71 Siege of Paris Balloon Monte covers consisting of three different flights, one is an early flight of a formula lettersheet with "Paris/R. D'Antin/7 Oct. 70" c.d.s and backstamped Tours on the 18th which could be one of about four balloons flown in that period, the other two are later flights of January 1871including an envelope flown on "Le General Faidherbe" with "Paris/Rue D'Enghien/12 Janv. 71" c.d.s., backstamped Tours on the 15th, the third is a small folded letter and a scarcer posting to Brussels, Belgium on "Le Poste de Paris" with "Paris/Rue D'Enghien/16 Janv. 71" c.d.s and backstamped on the 21st, this latter with faults to the stamps and stain to the cover, the other two are fine-very fine. 1943 Great Britain 1½d "coronation" propaganda stamp lower left margin example of 1937 coronation stamp altered by replacing Queen Elizabeth with Stalin, the text "S.S.S.R. Britannia/Teheran 28.11.43" replaces "Postage Revenue/12 May 1937", the script "GER" at center is modified to read "SSS", the Star of David appears at upper left and right, and the Soviet star appears in the right border, without gum, fresh and very fine, accompanied by a "Boycott Hitler" label and duplicate, both without gum and with minor faults, historically interesting items.
