Lebanon Ottoman office, Ottoman Bank registered cover, sent on 7 September 1914 from the Ottoman Post Office of Beirut with registered number 595, addressed to Trieste, at that time Austrian territory. It was franked for 2 Piastres by a vertical strip of four 20 paras, with small black star overprinted (Michel n. 247) to characterize stamps used for foreign mail. The stamps were cancelled by “BEYROUTH # 8” postmark. However there are traces of an earlier “attempt of shipping” made from the French Post Office of Beirut with registered number 193 on 1 September 1914 (six days earlier) and not been successful.
