ABU DHABI: 1968 Human Rights Year 40f ADL6, commercial usage within the Gulf (?, addressed entirely in Arabic), large-part strike of the bilingual pictorial cds of 4MY68, light bends. Rare: Terry Jones records one commercially used example.
BAHRAIN: 1964 Shaikh 30np with 'To open cut here' on the flap #11 commercially used to Holland with a request for confectionary appropriate for a hot climate!, 23mm 'BAHRAIN/ * ' cds.
DUBAI: 1963 Dhows 20np brown DAL4 - the rate to members of the Arab Postal Union - commercially used to Pakistan with faint strike of the hexagonal '.../DUBAI-POSTS' d/s, 'K.R. NEW TOWN/DELY/7JAN64' arrival b/s, central fold & soiled. Extremely rare. [The first five issues of 1963-64 were produced by the Baroody Stamp Co of Beirut with the primary (only?) purpose being explotation of collectors. Renowned postal stationery authority, Wayne Menuz, doubted that any of these aerogrammes were properly used until Gary Watson submitted proof]
DUBAI: 1964 Second Scouts Issue 30np Bugler on misprinted form with horizontal stamp box, and another overprinted on 40np Scouts Marching (or vice versa?). This issue is notorious for the fabrications perpetrated by the Baroody Stamp Co. However, a commercially used example of the 40np violet has been recorded. (2)
DUBAI: 1965 Educational Progress 40np DAL16 commercially used to Pakistan with light strike of the 26mm '.../ 1 /DUBAI' cds & 'KARACHI GPO/DELY' arrival b/s, vertical fold & some soiling/staining still of good appearance. [The message is written entirely in Arabic but is clearly dated "26.3.65". This is 19 months earlier than Terry Jones' issue date. It's a pity neither cds is good enough to confirm the year. Werner Wiegand's issue date is 25.11.1964 which is clearly wrong because it's in the period of the Baroody Stamp Co contract]

[The effusive letter from a super-fan congratulates NASA on the success of the Apollo Space Programme, then asks for coloured photos of the current and previous astronauts to add to his collection]
DUBAI: 1971 '60/Dh' on 40dh Hawk size 149x99mm DAL20 Overprinted Twice once on the Reverse, unused. [The second surcharge unusually shows the obliterating block cut in-half due to a pre-overprinting paper fold]
KUWAIT: 1959 Dhow 40np KUL8 commercially used to New York with 31mm bilingual '.../*/15FE/60/KUWAIT' cds. [Half-tone indicium providing a very fine design, compared to the previous coarsely-engraved indicium]
KUWAIT: 1965 25f Dove & Olive Branch KUL13 commercially used to Connecticut with bilingual '.../9FEB/1966/AHMADI KUWAIT' machine cancel, opened a little roughly at lower-left.
KUWAIT: 1969 Shaikh Sabah 12f KUL17 for use to members of the Arab Postal Union, commercially used to Egypt (?), minor faults. Correctly used APU issues are very scarce.
KUWAIT: 1969 25f Shaikh Sabah with sans serif 'STATE OF KUWIAT' KUL18 with unlisted Watermark 'Z', commercially used to Singapore, two filing holes not affecting the address panel.
OMAN: 1973 Sultan Qaboos in Arab Dress 25b OAL8 being the Arab Postal Union rate commercially used to Pakistan with bilingual '.../29DEC/75/CENTRAL BO' cds & 'CSO/KARACHI' arrival b/s, heavy central fold & soiling but still presentable. Rare: the only proper usage we have recorded.
OMAN: 1973 Sultan Qaboos in Arab Dress 50b OAL9 late usage to GB with 50b & 350b tied by superb strikes of the scarce oval '.../30JAN2001/ REGD /JAWHARAT A'SHATI' d/s in blue, bar-coded registration label obliterated on arrival in England where Royal Mail R label affixed to the reverse. Beautiful albeit philatelic usage. [Registered aerogrammes are very scarce]
QATAR: 1957 30dh QAL5 commercially used to New York with 20dh tied by bilingual '.../DOHA' cds. [The enclosed typed letter complains about dealers who fail to honour their commitments and collectors who ask questions but don't spend any money!]
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: 1971 Overprints on Abu Dhabi 'Oil Well' Aerogrammes 30f on 20f & 60f on 30f both with Double Surcharge (partly misplaced on the reverse), each with an associated light paper fold, unused. (2)

LEVANT: 1902 social usage of attractive PPC with Dual Currency 10h/20pa tied by 'JERUSALEM/OESTERREICHISCHE POST' cds, to NSW with Port Said & Colombo transits, on arrival forwarded to Victoria with NSW Arms 1d tied by very fine 'PARRAMATTA/NSW - 2 ' duplex, minor blemishes. Rare mail from Palestine to Australia]
LEVANT: 1908 commercial cover with 'AM KYRIAZOPOULO/Andrinople' merchant's cachet, to Victoria with 10pa & 30pa tied by very fine 'ADRIANOPEL/OESTERREICHISCHE POST' cds, Alexandria & Suez transits & unusually fine 'ENGLISH MAIL TPO JE 23 1908' machine b/s, light horizontal bend well clear of the adhesives & datestamps. [Adrianopel, today Edirne, is in the NW of the European portion of Turkey, formerly known as Thrace]

OFFICIAL STAMP: 1991 'OFFICIAL PAID/MAINLAND' on 90c SG O1 marginal block of 4 from the top of the sheet, undated 'CTO' cancel, unmounted, Cat £360+. Blocks are very scarce. [** We have been advised that the undated cancel was applied at Canberra and NOT on the islands. However, it is stated to be the scarcer type, distinguished by the upper inscription being larger & the lower inscription being smaller than on the island cancel **]
POSTAL HISTORY: 1945 (Sep 5) Indian-pattern 'AIR MAIL/LETTER CARD' to NSW with unusually fine strike of the Indian-pattern 'FPO/No 46' cds used on Cocos, a bit of wear, self-censored by Lt Alan Benson who states "...the war is over at long last...air passages are very precious & difficult to get...could [you] send me a few food parcels...big stores do the packing & despatch for you...What an ingenious new name you have chosen..." The last comment is pertinent to Jews who were sent from Britain aboard the 'Dunera' to Australia where many of them anglicised their names: what must "Kurt Lichtenstein" have been originally? Hundreds were released from internment camps to serve with the Australian Army's Employment Companies.

POSTAL HISTORY: 1951 (Sep) commercial cover with superb strike of the boxed 'TIN CAN MAIL/COCOS-KEELING IS' cachet in violet, unusually to Ceylon but endorsed "Airmail" & with Australia 6d Kookaburra pair paying the correct airmail rate from Australia, carried southwards with cachet of SS Orontes & the stamps tied by Perth slogan of 28SEP/1951, faults at the base where pulled from a file. Very scarce: Colin Riddell's exceptional Cocos collection had no Tin Can cover addressed to Ceylon. [A new discovery, from the family of the addressee]

POSTAL HISTORY: 1952 commercial airmail cover-front with superb strike of the boxed 'TIN CAN MAIL/COCOS-KEELING IS' cachet in violet but crossed-through in red, Singapore 50c tied by 'SINGAPORE/4MAR52' cds. Very scarce: Colin Riddell's exceptional Cocos collection had no Tin Can cover with the cachet obliterated. A new discovery, from the family of the addressee. [The cover was probably carried by hand to Singapore where it was placed in the mail]
1901 Cession (Crown) Overprint 1d brown with the overprint over a large void area caused by damage from separating the sheets prior to overprinting, without gum; another example with the left-hand portion of the Crown Omitted, large-part o.g., Cat £360+. The latter with RPSofV Certificate that states "not a catalogued variety of SG 22". [The certificate also mentions "expected defects", but while the Committee may have expected them, they aren't present!]
