image VERY RARE "D" IN CIRCLE MARK OF DUBLIN/LONDON ON FREE FRANK COVER TO LONDON; Fine 27 Aug. 1718 EL from "Breck[ington?]" to London franked "Free Molesworth" with a m/s "6" Dublin-to-London charge cancelled and replaced by the London "squiggle" (? privilege or free?), having a very fine small black "D" in circle mark (15mm diameter) on the top flap and a fine "2/SE" London arrival Bishop Mark on the bottom flap. Three other examples of this "D" mark are known (dated 1717 & 1719) and it is thought to be the precursor of the 1720-87 "DUBLIN" marks; they all occur only on Irish mail to/via London.
