image Russian Levant - Bogorodsk Zemstvo 1894 (26 Jan) Combination cover Cover of a letter mailed at a ROPiT office adressed to the village Osevskoe in the Bogorodsk district. Franked with the Russian Levant 1890 10k rose-carmine and green cancelled ROPIT (unreadable), Bogorodsk arrival mark (unreadable). Then transferred to the Zemstvo post. The Zemstvo post applied a 1894 4K due red stamp "for letters and notifications" (Schmidt #86) which was cancelled by cds of the district on 26.04.1894. Some spots and ageing of the paper but a rare item. (Image)

image Lebedin Zemstvo 1894 (20 Aug) Сombination cover of a letter sent from the village of Istorop (Исторопъ) in the Lebedin district (Kharkov province) to Moscow (Certificate) 1894 (20 Aug) Сombination cover of a letter sent from the village of Istorop (Исторопъ) in the Lebedin district (Kharkov province) to Moscow. To pay for the service of the Imperial Russian Post, a blue 7-kopek stamp (issued in 1889) has been affixed to the ordinary cover of the first weight class and canceled in the Lebedin post & telegraph office 22.08.1894 (PTK), repeated on the reverse. The Imperial datestamp is damaged (date inverted compared to the text), as it happens sometimes. The letter arrived in Moscow on 24.08.1894. To pay for the preliminary service of the Lebedin Zemstvo post from Istorop or Velikiy Istorop to Lebedin, an indigo-blue and bright sky blue 5-kopek Lebedin Zemstvo stamp has been affixed to the cover (Schmidt #7 = Chuchin 7). The Zemstvo stamp on this cover was endorsed by a blue oval (49x29 mm.) district datestamp. The cover bears also on the reverse a rectangular handstamp "Л. З. П. ИСТОРОПЪ" which means "Zemstvo Post of Lebedin district Istorop" and the date in manuscript “20 Августа 1894” (20.08.1894). Velikiy Istorop (the Volost center close to Istorop) is on the Zemstvo route (тракт) N°2. The sender of the cover is a member of the noble family Podolskiy (Подольский) who was known to have estates in the Lebedin district. The recipient is the company "Immer and son" (Иммер и сын) which worked in gardening. Known several other Zemstvos covers sent to the same address from other districts. Covers with Zemstvo stamp handled by the Zemstvo post of the Lebedin district are very rare. Up to now, less than 8 genuine without doubt covers of the district were recorded. According to V.Katsman, it comes from a Cherrystone auction (New York), 06.10.1981 lot 4217. Bernard Furnon A.I.E.P. certificate (Image)

image Luga Zemstvo 1902 (2 Oct) Combination cover of a letter sent from some village in the Luga district (St. Petersburg province) to the city of St. Petersburg (Certificate) 1902 (2 Oct) Combination cover of a letter sent from some village in the Luga district (St. Petersburg province) to the city of St. Petersburg. To pay for the service of the Imperial Russian Post, one 5-kopek and two 1-kopek stamps (issued in 1889) making a total of 7-kopek, have been affixed to the ordinary cover of the first weight class and cancelled in the Luga post & telegraph office on 02.10.1902 (PTK). The letter and arrived in St. Petersburg on 03.10.1902 (the post office attendant forgot to change the month and “IX” instead of “X” still appears). To pay for the preliminary service of the Luga Zemstvo post to the district capital Luga, a grey-blue 3-kopek Luga Zemstvo stamp has been affixed to the reverse of the cover (Schmidt #17 = Chuchin 17). The Zemstvo stamp on this cover was endorsed by a pen cross, accidentally and luckily covered by the arrival c.d.s. The recipient is the famous company of photography in the center of St. Petersburg “Bruno Zenger & Co” (????? ??????? ? ??). Covers with Zemstvo stamp handled by the Zemstvo post of the Luga district are rare. Up to now, about 25 covers of the district were recorded. Bernard Furnon A.I.E.P. certificate (Image)

To pay for the service of the Imperial Russian Post, two blue 7-kopek stamps (issued in 1889), one for postage and one for registration, have been affixed to the reverse of the registered cover of the first weight class and canceled in the Nikolsk post & telegraph office on 30 Jan 1901 (PTK). The letter left Nikolsk on 2 Feb 1901 and arrived in Moscow on 7 Feb 1901. To pay for the preliminary service of the Nikolsk Zemstvo post from Krasnoe to Nikolsk, two black, sky-blue, yellow, light green and carmine red 2-kopek Nikolsk Zemstvo stamps, tariff for registered letters, have been affixed to the cover (Schmidt #3). The two Zemstvo stamps on this cover were endorsed by a pen cross. The recipient is the company "Immer and son" (????? ? ???) which worked in gardening. Known several other Zemstvos covers sent to the same address from other districts. Covers with Zemstvo stamp handled by the Zemstvo post of the Nikolsk district are not common.
