'CINDERELLAS': 1898 'EXCURSION AU CONGO' poster stamps in red or blue vertical strips of 3 with a few faults but large-part o.g., plus the cover of the 'Inauguration du Chemin de Fer' booklet (repaired tears) & 1948 Golden Jubilee of the Railway 2fr50c x8 on commercial airmail cover to New Zealand. [Travel on the Congo River was interrupted by the Livingstone Falls. The railway line was built to speed communications. Approximately 1900 people - most of them black - died in the construction phase]

TRINIDAD: 1850 (June 6) cross-written entire to "Speights/Barbados" with mss "4" in black on the face, 29mm 'TRINIDAD/JU6/1850' despatch & 25mm 'BARBADOES/JU09/1850' arrival b/s, internal tear repaired with archival tape. A very attractive prestamp cover. [Speightstown, 19km N of the capital Bridgetown, is the second largest town, & was once the largest port for sugar and slaves on Barbados]
BOOKLETS: 1r80c black/blue booklet cover with airmail labels, Coronation 6c pair & Silver Jubilee 6c pair affixed to the interleaving!!, Cat £1200+ for a complete booklet. A new discovery of a hybrid booklet, or someone having a bit of fun?
POSTAL HISTORY: 1936 (Aug 13-14) two commercial airmail covers to GB each with KGV Pictorials 9c Tea tied by Colombo cds, with superb 'Damaged By SEA WATER' or largely very fine boxed 'DAMAGED BY IMMERSION/IN SEA WATER I.S.' cachets, the latter attractively water-stained. From the flying boat 'Scipio' which crashed on landing at Crete on 22.8.1936.

[The certificate also mentions "expected defects", but while the Committee may have expected them, they aren't present!]

[The route endorsement at U/L states that the cover was sent from Australia across the Pacific, around Cape Horn & posted back to sender from South Georgia. Wikipedia states that 'Discovery II' made visits to Australia (probably Melbourne) between October 1932 & May 1933, suggesting that this cover was carried on the ship Melbourne-South Georgia-Melbourne]
