image 1893 1d. pale rose, BISECTED diagonally, used along with 2d. olive on cover from Nuku'alofa to Tiverton, England via Auckland, New Zealand, cancelled "NUKUALOFA/TONGA/5 JL 93" cds, and on the reverse with Auckland '10 July 93' transit cds and Tiverton '18 Aug 93' arrival cds. The stamps with few stained perfs and cover showing a vert. fold at left, but still a good cover with the scarce bisected 1d. paying, along with the 2d., the complete 2½d. letter rate. BPA certificate (2002) (SG from £850)

image 1939/1940, registered letter sent from ERKELENZ 3.3.39 sent to Nukualofa, Tonga. It was addressed to "Her Royal Highness Queen Tui Tonga". On back of the envelope many cancellation show the way via New York, San Francisco, Sydney to Nukualofa where it arrived on 7 May 1939. The envelope was held till it was returned by "TET´D LTR. SECTION" on 8 Feb 40 and arrived again in Erkelenz on 13 Feb 40. Some transport faults should be tolerated. (Image)
