PO -.-.1882 (listed from 1879). Mordant lists nine recorded dates for the BONC from 1892-1901. The same number (different type: '3' with rounded top) had previously been used at Graaff-Reinet, Grahamstown & Victoria West.
Cape Town - Gardens: 'GARDENS/OC 4/93/T.O' [Telegraph Office] cds, largely very fine arrival strike on Postal Card ½d green to "Schoonds St" with Cape Town GPO squared circle despatch, aging marks & minor faults. Notwithstanding the designation in the canceller, Putzel lists the office as a PO 1.4.1886; renamed Mill Street, Gardens 1.12.1895; rated RRR.
Clarkson: 'CLARKSON/FE 23/99' cds (dot at base; no base inscription), almost very fine complete strike alongside fine Barred Oval Numeral '75' on Envelope 2½d olive to Germany, faint 'JAGERS/BOSCH' transit (SO only at this time; closed 1955) and 'GNADAU/20.3.99' arrival b/s, minor adhesion on back. Mission village; Tsitsikamma. Postal Agency only; opened circa 1876 (first listed). Mordant lists eight recorded dates for the BONC, from 1897-1902.

Laingsburgh: 'LAINGSBURGH/MR26/01/C.G.H' cds, largely very fine complete strike alongside Hope 1d rose tied by mostly fine Barred Oval Numeral '270' on cover with Boer War triangular 'PASSED/PRESS/[CENSOR]' h/s in blue, to London with 'AP18' arrival b/s, minor blemishes. Renamed from Buffells River Station PO 1.7.1888. Mordant records only four ties of the BONC, from 1891-1901.
Matatiele: 'MATATIELE/AP10/95' cds (no base inscription), very fine almost superb complete strike alongside Hope ½d black & 1d red tied by two very fine almost superb complete strikes of Barred Oval Numeral '407' on Envelope 1d rose to Germany, 'CREFELD/-8.5.95' arrival b/s, a couple of minor blemishes. Newmarket: 'NEWMARKET/6 JY/99/C.G.H' cds, almost very fine complete strike alongside reasonably fine complete Barred Oval Numeral '105' on Postal Card 1d brown to Austria with lengthy personal message on reverse, 'SEKKAU' cds on face where re-addressed to "Villingen, Baden", a couple of minor blemishes. Prieska: 'PRIESKA/FE 5/93' cds (no base inscription), largely very fine complete strike alongside very fine strike of Barred Oval Numeral '336' on Postal Card ½d green with "Vandermerlve & Proudfoot" merchants hand-written message, faint 'DRAGHOENDER' arrival d/s of same day on face, minor blemishes. Opened -.-.1880; PO 1.2.1882 (temporarily closed 1891 and again in 1900 during Boer War). Mordant lists six recorded dates for the BONC, from 1889-1900.
Stutterheim: 'STUTTERHEIM/AP 22/95/T.O' [Telegraph Office] cds, largely very fine strike on Postal Card Reply Half ½d green with 'BLOEMFONTEIN/30AP' squared circle arrival d/s, lengthy personal message, minor blemishes. Despite the designation in the CDS, the office is listed as a PA 1.5.1862; PO circa 1869 (PM appointed 1.11.1869); Putzel mentions a TO operating at Stutterheim Railway Station.

DOCUMENTS: 1828 Impressed Newspaper Duty 'CAPE OF GOOD HOPE/[crown & floral ornament]/ONE/PENNY' in red at U/R on the front page of the complete Government Gazette of 'Friday 7th March 1828', four separate sheets where removed from a bound volume (so originally two broadsheet pages), some aging marks. Each page is presented in two columns of English & Dutch; interesting contents include 'Sale of Newlands' announcing the sale of five lots of land between the High Road and the Liesbeek River. [The Cape Ordinance No.26 of 1826 imposed a tax of 1d per sheet on newspapers; perhaps the Government received a concessional rate?]
DOCUMENTS: 1832 Quitrent Receipt pre-printed for use at Stellenbosch acknowledging payment of £12/1/6d with Colourless Embossed Revenues 9d impressed on a separate piece of paper and affixed at top, manuscript cancel, minor folds & aging marks, slightly trimmed at base.
DOCUMENTS: 1836 Quitrent Receipt partly pre-printed form used at Graaf Reinert acknowledging payment of £4/15/9d with Colourless Embossed Revenues 18d & 6/- impressed at top (both with very fine deep embossing), not cancelled, minor folds & aging marks, slightly trimmed at edges.
DOCUMENTS: 1843 Quitrent Receipt wholly hand-written acknowledging payment of £1/12/6d with Colourless Embossed Revenues 18d and 3/- impressed into the document plus another 3/- value impressed on separate paper - with noticeably greater depth to the embossing - and affixed alongside, manuscript cancel, minor folds including vertically through the separate value.

Mathews states (p115) "There is one constant variety on stamp no.41 (the fifth stamp of row 7), where the left limb of the letter M is clearly broken ... [given the quantity overprinted] there can only be 13 of this variety for each [denomination] ... very rare".
