Cat No: 112
1914 'G.R.I.' Overprints '2 Shillings.' on 2mk blue SG 112 upper-right corner block of 4, unused, Cat £14,000+, as it has been since at least 2012. A marvellous & superb showpiece! Ex Marquess of Bute (Part One: Lot 343, then in a complete sheet of 20) & Gernot Reiners: sold at the Prestige auction of 30.3.2012 for $7280. Philatelic Foundation Certificate (2001). [Position 3 - the upper-left hand stamp in the block - usually shows the Shaved Stop after 'I' variety. It is not present here, indicating that this was from one of the first sheets printed]
1914 'G.R.I.' Overprints '3 Shillings' on 3mk SG 113, well centred, creased corner perf at upper-right, unused, four guarantee handstamps including of Richter and J&H Stolow on the reverse, Cat £1400, as it has been since at least 2006. [Sold at the Prestige auction of 1.9.2007 for $700]
1914 'G.R.I.' Overprints '3 Shillings' on 3mk SG 113 tied to small piece by 'APIA' cds, Champion, Roumet & Kilian guarantee handstamps, Cat £1200, as it has been since at least 2006. Ex Gernot Reiners: sold at the Prestige auction of 30.3.2012 for $610. Jurgen Kilian Certificate (1984).
1914 'G.R.I.' Overprints '3 Shillings' on 3mk SG 113 well centred marginal example from the top of the sheet tied to small piece by 'APIA' cds, Champion, Roumet & Kilian guarantee handstamps, Cat £1200, as it has been since at least 2006. Ex 'Ello' (Erich Schlieper): sold at the Prestige auction of 5.5.2009 for $1105. RPSofNZ Certificate (1980).
1914-15 'SAMOA.' Overprints on New Zealand KEVII 2d mauve SG 117 marginal block of 4 from the base of the sheet with Four Plate Dots in the Margin, unmounted. Superb! Ex John Williams (UK): sold at the Prestige auction of 6.3.2010 for $785. [Campbell Paterson lists unoverprinted Two Plate Dots and Four Plate Dots blocks of 4 for $NZ2500 each]
1914-24 'SAMOA.' Overprints on New Zealand QV Postal Fiscals £2 bright violet Scott #126 marginal example from the right of the sheet, unmounted, Cat $US400. Pristine! [Four mounted mint examples - various printings - offered in the Prestige auction of 12.2.2010 sold for an average of $694]
Previously listed as SG 133 but the current footnote states "We no longer list the £2 value as it is doubtful this was used for postal purposes". This is simply incorrect: Prestige has sold at least three postally used examples. By this reasoning, hundreds of British Empire high value stamps should be delisted. Perversely, Samoa SG 175 & 176 are listed but unpriced used!
1925-28 'SAMOA.' Overprints on New Zealand QV Postal Fiscals Cowan Paper 5/- with Overprint Misplaced at Top SG 166ba block of 4, the gum a little aged as usual, some perf separation & reinforcement, Cat £8000+, as it has been since at least 2012. Unique: believed to be the only recorded block of 4. Ex Floyd Fitzpatrick (Lot 1290) & Gernot Reiners: sold at the Prestige auction of 30.3.2012 for $3560.
