Antilles 1855: Cuba ½ r. blackish-green, a clear to large margined example from left of sheet with portion of adjoining stamp at top, used on 1856 cover to La Rochelle endorsed "par voie d'Angleterre", tied by oval network handstamp in black. Superb strike of extremely rare "GUAYAMA / PUERTO RICO" despatch datestamp in blue at right (June 11) and reverse with British P.O. "SAN JUAN PORTO RICO" cds in blue (July 13). Thence via London where scarce "COLONIES / ART-18" applied in red (June 30) and taxed '15' décimes due in black on arrival: tariff of 1 Aug 1849. Antilles 1882-86: Puerto Rico 8 c. grey-brown horizontal pair used on 1887 cover to France, paying the double rate, tied by "San Juan" despatch cds (Aug 13). Found top be triple weight upon arrival with triangular "T" marking and the amount due (80 centimes) charged with Postage Due 40 c. black and 4 c. black - either in error or a fraud by the Postal Clerk - tied by 'Sommieres / Gard' cds's (Aug 31).
