1752 (June 30): Stanislaw I Leszczynski (1677 – 1766) King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Duke of Lorraine and a count of the Holy Roman Empire. Parchment Manuscript 1 p. oblong (seal missing) titled: 'Stanislas par la grace de Dieu Roi de Pologne, grand Duc de Lithuanie .... Donné en notre Ville [Nancy] le trentième Juin milseptcent cinquante deux.", signed by his own hand 'Stanislas Rey'. In 1725 his daughter Marie Leszczynska married King Louis XV of France. 1736 Stanislaw abdicated the Polish throne, but received in compensation the Duchy of Lorraine and of Bar, which was to revert to France on his death. He settled at Lunéville, founded in 1750 the Académie de Stanislas and Bibliothèque municipale de Nancy, and devoted himself for the rest of his life to science and philanthropy, engaging most notably in controversy with Rousseau.
