POSTAL CARDS: 1945-69 issues beautifully presented 5-frame exhibit featuring 1945-46 austerity issues on a variety of stocks, 5c olive overprinted for Dutch Railways, '5/CENTS' on 7½c Laren Provisional, 'NEDERLAND 5' on Dutch Indies 3½c, '5' on 7½c Scenic Issue with Double Surcharge & Inverted Surcharge on the same card!, Marathon Charity 10c with 'SPECIMEN' h/s in violet, 1967 Phosphor Trials, Labour List Cards comprising Wilhelmina 7½c red & 7½c brown (current for only two months) and Juliana 6c both types, 5c, 7c & 8c x2 (both used), etc, unusual usages 1946 returned for postage & 1956 internal express, generally very fine to superb! Ex Hans Karman. [The so-called Labour List Cards must be the largest Postal Stationery items ever produced, for any country]
POSTAL HISTORY: 1916 cover from a Belgian interned soldier to German-occupied Belgium with green POW label Mi 1 (NVPH 1N1; Cat €200 for a used stamp) just tied by 'LEGERPLAATS' cds & 'PORTVRIJ/FRANC DE PORT/Militaires.../Internés dans...' cachet, German 'Zuruck/weil unzulassig' h/s (= Return, as inadmissible), minor blemishes & minor creasing. [Because the Netherlands was neutral & the Belgian refugees were internees rather than prisoners-of-war, the Germans refused to accept covers such as this as free mail. Legerplaats-bij-Oldebroek is situated between Amsterdam & Zwolle]
POSTAL HISTORY: 1910 Spanish PPC to Hobart with Netherlands Indies 2½c tied by very fine undated triple-oval 'KONINKLIJKE PAKET VAAR/SS/NIEUW ZEELAND/MAATSCHAPPIJ' cachet in violet, very fine strike of the by now very worn 'LOOSE/SHIP/LETTER'-in-oval h/s (Hosking #1308, which we believe is simply a worn state of #5802, with large circular 'O's and large stops). [The message indicates the sender was at Macasser, a town in the south of Celebes (now Sulawesi)]

POSTAL HISTORY: 1928 Burns Philp (Semarang, Java) cover with large insignia on the flap & typed "Per SS Marella/via Brisbane", to the company's office at Cairns with a largely very fine strike of the very worn 'LOOSE/SHIP/LETTER'-in-oval h/s (Hosking #1358), Netherlands Indies 10c strip of 3 tied by 'BRISBANE/ 17JL28/ QUEENSLAND' cds, 'CAIRNS' arrival b/s of 21JUL28 & another strike tying Postage Due Perf 14 1d to the face, ironed-out vertical fold well clear of the stamps & markings. [The deliberate 'mis-sending' first to Brisbane, which is 1600km SSE of Cairns, suggests the 'Marella', a Burns Philp vessel, sailed directly from Semarang to Brisbane]
POSTAL HISTORY: 1905 (May 17) cover endorsed via "Calcutta Singapore", to Sourabaja with India KEVII 3p x4 tied by 'HYDERABAD-CITY' Sind cds, taxed with 'T' in circle h/s endorsed "15c" and Netherlands Indies Postage Due 15c black/red affixed on face tied by superb 'SOERABAJA' Squared Circle, 'N.I. AGENT SINGAPORE' Squared Circle marine sorter b/s, extensively annotated on back, a few blemishes.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1929 (Nov) usage of Wilhelmina 12½c red Envelope to Switzerland with return address "...KPM/Benkoelen Sum WK" and Numeral 7½c bistre added tied by very fine strike of 'KONINKLIJKE PAKETVAART/S.S./VAN LINSCHOTEN/MAATSCHAPPIJ' undated ship h/s in violet, 'TANDJONG-/-5.11.29/ PRIOK' transit b/s. The item was carried by the KPM ship from Sumatra to Java, then into the normal mail to destination; the foreign letter rate was 20c up to 20g.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1931-39 inwards airmails to Australia with variety of frankings including Airmals & Commemoratives noted 1931-32 endorsed for internal NEI airmail then ship to Australia x5, one further endorsed "From Brisbane by air" paying an additional 35c for Australian internal airmail and 1933 endorsed "Via Amsterdam" (b/s) with 'PELIKAAN' cds at 130c rate, 1935 "PER QANTAS LUCHTMAIL" at 105c rate, 1935 registered at 80c rate including Christian Military Home set, 1937-38 postcards to New Zealand with Wilhelmina 12½c single and to Rye (Vic) at 20c rate, 1938 Tea Samples pouch with 'THEE' revenues x3 on back, condition variable.
