1852, 5 C blue and two 15 C orange "King Willem III", each tied with R1 "FRANCO", on cover to Copenhagen (Denmark). The 5 C touched at right, with full to wide margins on three sides and the two 15 C with full margins on all sides, the right side of the cover is shortened and a piece of the envelope is missing on the back. The front of the cover shows tax mark "ontoereikend" (engl. insufficient), framed transit mark "AMSTERDAM" and cds "N.R.SPOORWEG, 11/3 1864" as well as handwritten tax notes. UNCOMMON DESTINATION. ÷ 1852, 5 C blau und zweimal 15 C orange "König Willem III." jeweils mit R1 "FRANCO"entwertet, auf Auslandsbrief nach Kopenhagen (Dänemark). Die 5 C rechts berührt, dreiseitig voll- bis breitrandig und die beiden 15 C allseits vollrandig, die Briefhülle ist rechts verkürzt und rückseitig fehlt ein Stück des Umschlags. Vorderseitig mit Taxstempel L1 "ontoereikend" (dt. unzureichend), Transitstempel R1 "AMSTERDAM" und nebengesetztem K1 "N.R.SPOORWEG, 11/3 1864" sowie handschriftlichen Taxvermerken. On the frontside red straight line (langstempel) NUMANSDORP and red transit cds (takje) OUD-BEIJERLAND, 4.MRT.69, in red, arrival mark Amsterdam on reverse. VF condition. 1924 "FLORA 6 CENT." ESSAYS showing the roman God of flowers in 6 different shades and colours, used in 1924 by the German printer Dr Eckerlin as sample for selling his intaglio rotary printing press process (developed by Herbst & Illig in Germany) to the Netherlands post. Very fine. Photocopy of RPS CERTIFICATE (2019) for item of same origin included. Similar essay by this company are known for GB, Canada, Italy, Romania and Hungary they are described in an October 2002 articles of the philatelic magazine "Maple Leaves" thanks to new research made in the American Banknote Archives: "Dr. Eckerlin, was director of Herbst & Illig of Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany. In 1928, Dr. Eckerlin contacted Treadway of ABN for purposes of promoting a rotary intaglio printing process that was faster and cheaper than steel engraved printing." (Image)
