MESOPOTAMIA: 1919 usage of Times Press (Bombay) PPC 'Turkish prisoners taken in February 1917' from a British sergeant, to GB with part Indian FPO cds, minor blemishes. Pencil message states "...I arrived...at camp called Baiji...about 140 miles north of Bagdad...Mails are very scarce". [British & Indian forces remained after the Ottoman surrender on 14.11.1918 to oversee the expulsion of the Turks & the establishment of Iraq as a British vassal state]
