2006-16 Emergency Surcharges on Bird Definitives extensive collection of this highly specialised material SG F1310-F1393 with numerous Overprint Shifts and Misplaced Overprints including in gutter pieces, several noted as Trial Overprints including overprinted '---' '=' or '==', Double Overprints and Double Overprints One Inverted, Surcharges on Wrong Values including '2c' in two blocks of '1c' on 23c, '20c' on 23c block of 20 (top two rows) with six units having the Surcharge Largely Omitted, etc etc, also twenty complete sheets of various values, some toning noted but generally very fine unmounted. With the PISC book on the subject by Bryan Jones (2010) & several later continuation articles by him. [Note that many of these stamps were produced in very small numbers and that some of the errors are extremely elusive] (Image1)

REVENUES: 1883 QV Keyplates 1d single & pair, 3d, 6d x2, 1/- singles x3 & pair, 2/- x2, 3/-, 4/-, 5/-, 10/- & £1, various shades & perforations, facially very attractive but there is some toning on the reverse. Scarce & underrated. [NB: only 5000 were printed of each of the top five denominations. Of these, many were destroyed. Dave Elsmore states the following numbers were issued: 3d x4798, 3/- x3186, 4/- x1942, 5/- x2034, 10/- x1181 and £1 x1132]
REVENUES: Colourless embossing 'CROWN/SIX/PENCE/FIJI' on small document piece with KGV 6d, pen-cancelled, minor blemishes. Not listed by John Barefoot & not previously seen by us. Pic above Lot 1722.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1908 (April 29) usage of PPC ('Fijian girls preparing native grog') to Queensland with very fine strike of 'SS. SUVA' ship's h/s in violet above the message, KEVII 1d red tied by GPO Suva cds, a few blemishes. The mesage states "This ['Kava'] is a nice drink it is very cooling & I drank a lot of it".
POSTAL HISTORY: 1910 & 1913 Fijian PPCs (the first a real photo type 'Preparing for a Canoe Race, Rotuma' which is the northernmost island in Fiji) with KEVII 1d red single & superb '1D' tax h/s or KGV 1d red x2 both to Sydney where cancelled on arrival & each with a superb strike of the oval 'LOOSE SHIP/ + LETTER + ' h/s (35½x24½mm & 'L' to 'L' = 7½mm; Hosking #1501; White et al #SL18) below. Nice duo.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1927 Oceanic Steamship Co cover with illustrated flap, to Indiana with double-oval 'LOOSE SHIP/ + LETTER + ' h/s (Hosking #1501) and Fiji KGV 3d blue tied by Sydney cds of 10MR27. [This may be a case of mail missent in the wrong direction, to Australia instead of to Hawaii]
POSTAL HISTORY: 1951-62 commercial airmail covers with various rates/frankings including KGVI 1/5d, KGVI 3d & 1/6d + QE 6d, KGVI 2/6d, QE 2/6d River to Guernsey, 2/6d Airport 'TAVUA' to Canada, etc, & 1970 PPC to USA with 10c Marlin, also 1941 OHMS surface to Costa Rica with KGVI 6d Die II & light 'POSTMASTER SUVA' h/s, fine to very fine.
