1938-49 KGVI Pictorials 2c to R5 complete including all listed perfs and shades plus the Postal Fiscal R10 SG F1, and a few extras, some characteristic minor tropicalisation, generally very fine lightly mounted or unmounted, Cat £1600+. A difficult set to complete.

1938-49 KGVI Pictorials R5 KGVI on Chalk-Surfaced Paper SG 397 marginal block of 4 from the base of the sheet, the first unit with a minor stain at the top, the other units unmounted, Cat £220+.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1905 usage of Kandy Undivided Back multi-view picture postcard to Australia endorsed "Per NL Oldenburg" for carriage by German ship with KEVII 6c tied Colombo cds, nevertheless carried by the British India Steam Navigation Co with two magnificent strikes of the 'S.S. ASKA/10APR1905/B.I.S.N.Co.' double-ring oval d/s in violet applied over stamp and alongside, couple of very minor blemishes.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1933 'Amateur Photographic' illustrated advertising cover showing Box Brownie camera on face and Agfa film boxes on back, airmail to Germany with KGV 30c & 50c tied 'COLOMBO/9SP/33' cds, 'BRAUNSCHWEIG/18.9.33' arrival b/s, couple of minor blemishes. Very attractive.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1937 airmail cover to England with KGV Pictorials 50c pair tied 'COLOMBO/27NO/37' cds, carried on the ill-fated Imperial Airways Flying Boat 'Cygnus' which crashed on take-off at Brindisi (Italy) on 5.12.1937 killing 2 of the 13 passengers & crew, salvaged from the wreck and forwarded with British 'DAMAGED BY SEA-WAT[ER]' violet boxed h/s on face, a few blemishes as to be expected. Scarcer origin for Cygnus crash mail, enhanced by the stamps still being in place.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1942 "On Active Service" airmail cover to England with KGVI Pictorials 50c tied British 'FIELD POST OFFICE/40(?)' cds, censored with 'C151' Unit Censor cachet and unusually also with diamond 'PASSED BY 5 IND FD CENSOR UNIT/G' and scarce Indian-pattern 'OPENED BY/FIELD CENSOR' green-on-white resealing label, minor edge faults & aging marks.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1943 (July 11) usage of Forces formular aerogramme to Ontario endorsed "via Ceylon, Lagos, Brazil, USA, Canada" & with 'CANADA/AND USA/ONLY' h/s in violet, franked KGVI Pictorials 10c 15c 20c & 30c for the 75c Forces rate tied by dumb cancels formerly used on telegrams, faint RAF censor h/s, sender's endorsement ".../RCAF Ceylon/SECM". Very scarce: only a small Canadian contingent served in Ceylon during WWII.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1945 airmail cover to USA with KGVI Pictorials 30c pair & R1 pair tied 'KOLLUPITIYA/6FE/45' cds, censored locally with 'OPENED BY/EXAMINER/L478' label, carried by BOAC to London where red circular 'O.A.T.' cachet applied on face for onwards carriage by Trans-Atlantic Clipper Flying Boat service to USA, couple of minor blemishes.
