CRASH MAIL ETC: 27 Feb 1932 env to Birmingham carried on the Aeropostale Latecoere 28 -F-AJOX flight which crashed in the sea off Setiba, Rio grande with "DAMAGED BY SEA/WATER" h.s. which was applied to British mail. 10 Jan 1935 env carried on the Lufthansa HE-70 D-UDAS "Habichi" which crashed into lake Constance. 15 Nov 1935 envs (2, one being a hospital env) carried on Air France Latecoere 28 aircraft which crashed near Aracaju and "COURIER ACCIDENTE BRESEL/LE 3 NOVEMBRE 1935" h.s. applied. 20 June 1941 env from Argentina to Lebanon via FAM 14 on the trans Pacific route. WEST AFRICA AIRMAILS - THE UNIQUE KHARTOUM TO KANO SURVEY FLIGHT COVER: 1936 env. from Kano to Calcutta flown on a single survey flight for the Nigeria feeder service. At Kano the cover was handed unstamped by the writer R.S.Warner, a Nigerian Government official to the pilot, Capt. O.P. Jones who carried it to Khartoum via El Obeid, El Fasher, Geneina, Abecher, Ati, Fort Lamy and Maiduguri. At Khartoum the cover was stamped and forwarded via the regular Imperial Airways flight to Alexandria and Calcutta to Mr Warner’s brother serving in India. Ex Colin McCaig. (Priddy p.67). WWII – “GRIPSHOLM” - RARE JAPANESE P.O.W. REPATRIATION COVER: 1943 env. from Port Elizabeth sent by an American civilian P.O.W. being repatriated on the "Gripsholm" to his son, a war correspondent in Kunming. The env. was sent at the correct 2/6d air fee via the horseshoe service to Cairo and Calcutta then by CNAC service "over the hump" into China. With correct censor tape applied in S.Africa.
