image TINY ISLAND OF GIGHA - ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED PRESTAMP COVERS - ROUTED VIA TARBERT; 11 June 1824 EL (folds neatly to show internal heading alongside address) from "[Island of] Gigha, Tayinloane, Argyllshire" to Glasgow charged "9[d]" with fine boxed "TARBERT/500-G" mileage mark on the top flap; contents ref. protecting some local foxes for future sport and noting that the delay to this letter was due to the writer being on the "steam boat [that] sailed early in the morning...". Only one other pre-1840 cover (of 1802) from this tiny island off the coast of Islay has been recorded; its Post Office was not opened until 1859. (Image)

Only two earlier covers from this tiny island off the coast of Islay have been recorded (dated 1802 & 1824); its Post Office was not opened until 1859.
