1943-45 Stampless covers (3) and a P.O.W lettersheet from USA to U.S P.O.Ws all returned by U.S authorities, comprising cover to Philippines with "Returned to Sender By Censor" label; cover to "Eugene De Turck, Radio Operator S.S Vincent, Held by Japanese, Shanghai" and lettersheet to Fukuoka Camp both with "Returned to Writer" cachets; and 1943 cover to a Major Burns, held for 31 months until after the war then returned with cachet marked "Deceased". Smeed in Fukuoka Camp No. 1, marked "unknown" with violet "Return To Sender" and "RETURNED IN UNDELIVERED MAILS / FROM TERRITORY FORMERLY OCCUPIED / BY JAPANESE FORCES"; and 1944 (Nov) Zentsuzi War Prison Camp postcard from F.A Fieldhouse to Kent, found by allied forces in Japan with Japanese censors and datestamp (Dec 9), violet boxed "RETURNED IN / UNDELIVERED / MAILS FROM JAPAN", arrival datestamp (19 Oct. 1945), unusual. Fowler (3) all with Japanese censors, six with G.B censors, five handstamped "Sce DES PRISONNIERS DE GUERRE", the three cards from Fowler with vertical folds (one repaired with tape), otherwise fine. Japan - Kawasaki. 1942-44 Covers (with enclosed letters) from G.B to Aircraft Fitter D.J Sutch, captured when H.M.S "Hermes" was sunk off the coast of Ceylon in April 1942, comprising covers to "H.M.S Hermes, c/o G.P.O" (2, March/April 1942, one "Return To Sender"), and stampless covers (5) and 3d P.O.W postcards (2) to Kawasaki No. 1 Camp. Also 1943 typed copy of a message broadcast received from Sutch with a covering letter from the Naval Barracks at Lee-on-Sea, and 1945 telegrams sent to Sutch in Canada whilst en route to the U.K, or upon his arrival back in London. An interesting correspondence, the items to Kawasaki Camp all with Japanese censors. (12).

Japan - Zentsuji. 1942-44 Covers (5) and a P.O.W lettersheet from the USA to "H.P Hevenor, American Civilian Internee, Bureau of the Budget, formerly at Wake Island, Zentsuji War Prison Camp", five covers bearing U.S airmail stamps, one stampless, all with circular or boxed Japanese censor cachets. An interesting correspondence to a civilian, treated as a military P.O.W by the Japanese. (6).

Taiwan / Korea. 1944 Taiwan third type P.O.W card from Gnr G. Clark, addressed to an Officer in India, twice redirected within India, and again with a label to England, Japanese and Indian censors and "Service Des / Prisonniers De Guerre" cachet, Indian and London datestamps, vertical fold but unusual. Also 1942 stampless covers from G.B to P.O.Ws in Malaya with Japanese censors, one redirected to Korea, the other two to Taiwan, one of these to the stamp dealer (and noted Liberia specialist) Philip Cockrill. (4).

Hong Kong / Japan. 1943 Stampless cover from Gloucester to "Gnr L.F Lees, British P.O.W, Camp 8, Hong Kong" with black seal of Takamaru applied in Tokyo, returned with violet boxed "IT IS REGRETTED THAT / THIS ITEM COULD NOT BE / DELIVERED BECAUSE THE / ADDRESSEE IS REPORTED / PRESUMED DECEASED"; and 1945 stampless cover from Brighton to "CSM E. Soden, 1st Middlesex Regt, Osaka P.O.W Camp, Kobe Sub Camp, Japan" with violet "RETURNED FROM ABROAD / SERVICE SUSPENDED". Both addressees were on the "Lisbon Maru" when it was sunk by the U.S.S "Grouper" on 1st October 1942; Rees died in the sinking whilst Soden was rescued by Chinese fishermen and subsequently recaptured by the Japanese. The first with staining from the violet cachet, otherwise fine. (2).
