Bulla Bulling: 25mm 'BULLA BULLING/JU29/96/[W.A]' very fine strike on 1d pink. A new discovery: not recorded in PMI. PO 1.1.1896; RO 13.12.1904; closed 31.12.1924. [Presumably, this cds was lost after only a short time. The 21mm 'BULLA-BULLING' cds - with hyphen - is recorded from 30AU/97]
Perth: Double-oval 'SPECIAL INQUIRY & DETECTIVE OFFICE/30MAR12/GPO PERTH WA' two largely superb strikes in violet tying ½d x5 to PO 'Declaration...relating to a Missing Letter...containing a Valuable Enclosure Unregistered', the form is significantly aged but is the only recorded example. Datestamp unrecorded in PMI. [The missing letter contained a 5/- Postal Note payable to the Queensland Insurance Co at Perth, the sender stating that registration of such as item was not required, although he probably regretted not paying the extra 3d]
634 Mile Trans-Australian Railway: '634 MILE TAR/3AP37/WA' three very fine strikes on philatelic but correctly rated cover to California, with plain provisional registration label tied by one of the strikes. PO 1.4.1935; TO 2.6.1937; closed ? [This is the only registered cover recorded by us]
Great Southern Railway: 'PERTH-ALBANY/WA/ 13 /AP25/91/TRAVELLING POST OFFICE' (LRD: with Gang '13' unlisted in PMI) fine transit b/s - worn state - on cover from Adelaide to Perth. 1854 Penny Black c.1902 reprinted die proofs of the unfinished design in indigo, deep green, bright violet, bright carmine & vermilion each on wove paper. Superb! [These can be distinguished from the previous lot by the existence of a constant vertical colour flaw on the Swan above 'P' of 'PENNY']

1854 Penny Black Imperf 1d SG 1 block of 4, margins just shaved at centre-right to large, four fine strikes of a void grid canceller, Cat £1300++. A rare and very desirable multiple. [Far superior to Dr Cecil Walkley's only used block of 4 that sold at the Prestige auction of 14.4.2005 for $1864. 'Besancon' had a couple of pairs only. Lord Vestey had two blocks of 6 (one on the reverse of a cover!) but no blocks of 4]

BPA Cetificate (1949) for the 4d as the then SG 12 states "is genuine". (2)
1854-55 Lithographs 4d pale blue SG 3 marginal block of 18 (3x6) from the top of the sheet [3-5/103/105] including Boil on Head of 'S' of 'AUSTRALIA' [25] and 'EN' of 'PENCE' Shorter [104] SG 3m, margins good to humungous, horizontal creases through the margins between the second & third rows & the fifth & sixth rows, a few other units creased, professionally cleaned to remove residue from the original gum, Cat £9625++ for unused singles. 1860-64 Printed in the Colony from Perkins Bacon Plates 2d imperf plate proof block of 4 in black on ungummed unwatermarked paper, margins just touching - at lower-left - to good, ironed-out horizontal crease at the base of the upper units doesn't detract from the very fine facial appearance. An important proof. [Absent from the Dr Cecil Walkley & 'Besancon' collections. This block is at least the equal of Lord Vestey's block of 4]
Pope & Reynolds at pp19-22 of 'The Two Pence Perkins Bacon Plate' (1995) give a detailed analysis of the various plate proof sheets. This block, from the Alpha proof sheet, is illustrated at p19 where it is stated that it "has markings which cannot be found on the Beta proof sheet, the Imprimatur sheet, or on the stamps as issued". This therefore reveals a case of progressive plate proofs, a situation most unusual for recess-printed issues from any country.

1860-64 Printed in the Colony from Perkins Bacon Plates 2d pale orange SG 24 with Plank on Swan's Head [9], margins just touched - at upper-right - to good, light 15-bar '13' cancel of Pinjarrah largely clear of the variety. The only used example recorded of this dramatic variety. [Pope & Reynolds at pp23-25 discuss the cause of this flaw - a foreign object on the plate - and state that only 6 examples, all unused, had been recorded]
1860-64 Printed in the Colony from Perkins Bacon Plates 2d orange-vermilion SG 25 marginal block of 9 from the right of the sheet [38-40/58-60], margins just touched - middle stamp at left - to huge, unused, Cat £1350++. Ex Frank Chadwick. [This block demonstrates how the application of the ink was irregular. The three units at right have a distinctive Dry Ink appearance &, by themselves, would be classified as 'pale orange' SG 24]

1861 Printed by Perkins Bacon 6d imperforate plate proof marginal horizontal pair in dull mauve on ungummed unwatermarked paper, margins close to huge. [The 6d colour trial sheets were rejected with an instruction to make this value "more of a slate colour", though the issued purple-brown hardly conforms to that directive]
1861 Printed by Perkins Bacon 6d imperforate plate proof in purple-black on ungummed unwatermarked paper, rough perforations on all sides clear of the design. An enigma: offered 'as is'. RPSofV Certificate (1992) states "...it is a plate proof and subsequently partly [sic] perforated", implying that it was officially perforated & is perhaps related to the Rough Perf 14-16 6d purple/blue paper SG 45.
