image 18th Century Folded Letters, 3 items, first is 1797 folded letter from John Jamieson at St. Mary's (GA) April 9th 1797 to Louisville KY with manuscript "20" rate, second is Oct. 18 1780 folded cover "On His Majesty's Service" from Patrick Tonyn (1725–1804; a British General who served as the last British governor of East Florida from 1774 to 1783) "To His Excellency John Martin Esq. Governor of the State of Georgia Savannah" (no postal markings; John Martin was a Revolutionary War soldier born in Rhode Island about 1730 who made his way to Georgia around 1767, settling just south of Savannah. He served as a first lieutenant with the Seventh Company and later attained the rank of lieutenant colonel. Martin first entered politics in 1775, serving as member of the Georgia Provincial Congress, then mayor of Savannah in 1778 and Sheriff of Chatham County in 1778-79, then governor 1782-83, then state treasurer of Georgia 1783-84, he died January 1786), third is 1796 Clarksburg (West) Virginia to a "Timber Merchant" in Halifax, York, England with a two-line "Cowes Ship Lre" handstamp, usual minor flaws, Fine to Very Fine.
