image THE ART ORTEGA LICENSE & ROYALTY STAMP COLLECTION, contains over 450 mostly different stamps and related pieces, contained on black stock pages in generally alphabetical order by company, this extremely important collection is one of the most extensive License & Royalty collections ever put together, the overall condition is mixed but Mr. Ortega spent over 30 years constantly upgrading his collection, so many of the stamps here are in very high quality considering what is normally offered in this area, there are many issues in the collection which are listed in the Drummond catalog but there are perhaps over 100 items in this collection which are unlisted in Drummond, there are values up to $1500( the N.Y. Rubber Co. label), and many items which catalog in the $100-250 range, there are also some scattered proof items here, it is difficult to come up with a estimated market value for a collection with this many different and with some many unlisted items, Mr. Ortega mentioned he often spent $200-300 for a single stamp and sometimes up to $500 for some of the unlisted items, the last major collection to come on the market was the Henry Tolman collection which was sold in 2007, this lot was estimated at $2,000-3,000 which everyone knew was way too low but there was very active bidding well into the teens, the collection was eventually knocked down at about $22,000 with the buyer's fee, the Tolman collection also had good quality and about 300 mostly different stamps, but his collection was very strong in the more common issues like McKay and Union Paper Collar, the Ortega collection has 50% more stamps and certainly many more unlisted and elusive stamps than the Tolman collection, a truly amazing collection which took the owner over 30 years of aggressive hunting and searching to put together, elsewhere in this catalog we are offering his L & R collateral items which include several very interesting "3D" items, and also his L & R cover collection is being offered intact, we have included scans of every page from his collection and those images are available on our website and Stamp Auction Network, without question the finest collection of these elusive items we have ever offered, (ENV 15,000-20,000) (Image)

image THE ART ORTEGA LICENSE & ROYALTY COLLATERAL AND "3D" COLLECTION, there are about 30 different items in the collection of which 14 are various boxes/tins where some have stamps attached like one with a Union Paper Collar stamp which also happens to have the collars inside the box, the overall condition of this group is mixed but most of the boxes are in real good shade, there are some other "flatter" items which are related to the L & R area, but the key item without question is a pair of brown children's boots which one of the boots has a Carrick Seamless Shoe Co. 1/2c blue license stamp affixed to the sole, it took Mr. Ortega 30 years of diligent scouring to come up with this group of items and two our knowledge this is the largest group of "3D" items we have ever seen or know about, certainly some of these, boots included should probably be in a museum somewhere, a wonderful and most unusual opportunity for the specialist in this area, (ENV 2,000-3,000) (Image)
