Early 1900's, extensive leather post card collection, comprising of 205 unique cards many quite colorful, we note that about half are postally used and half are mint. Congress provided by the Act of May 19, 1898 for the transmission by mail at postage rate of one cent a piece, under such regulations as the Postmaster General may prescribe, of written messages on private mailing cards". The once cent rate continued until 1917. Leather post cards during this period became a popular form of private mailing card that qualified for the one cent rate. It is interesting that many of the postmarks are 1907 on these cards. A neat collection for the post card connoisseur - a few imaged on the website to give an idea of what is in the lot!
