image 1884 (Apr. 7), cover from Baltimore to India, sent by George B. Cole to Rev. Chas. H.A. Dall of Calcutta, India. When it got to Calcutta it was forwarded to Kurseong, India where Rev. Dall had set up a school for orphan and poor girls. Rev. C.H. A. Dall (1816-1886) was a Harvard graduate and wrote many scientific papers. Failing health in 1855 forced him in to his first love missionary work and he became the first foreign missionary of the Unitarian Church of America. On the face of the cover is a great example of cross-writing which was common for the period where Mr. Cole added some more notes. The address was type written which is also an early example of the typewriter use. Nice group of hand cancels on the back of the cover charting its travels, Fine to Very Fine.
