image ROSES - EXHIBITION DISPLAY COLLECTION: The display mounted on c.87 pages on the theme of Roses. Demonstrated in stamps, cards, covers and also some bank notes, silks, poster stamps, cigarette cards, telegrams and other ephemera. The various aspects covered include rose characteristics, the wild rose, modern varieties and their creators, the rose in history, heraldry, art, literature, etc. Some of the philatelic highlights include a 1848 reproduction of Charles Whiting's 1839 Treasury Competition submission, a number of early 20th. C. US printed covers with rose illustrations, French & Belgian epreuves deluxe, 1954 Harrison proof set of 7 featuring Alexandra's Rose, various mini sheets, a piece of original art work, rose related cancels, etc. GB interest includes WWII German propaganda issue of KGVI ½d dark green, 1951 KGVI 1½d pale green Postal Stationery proof, QEII 2d Wilding with 'rose petal' and 'dot over stem' flaws and set of 5 artist signed prints on hand woven paper created by Yvonne Skargen for the 1991 World Rose Congress, Belfast. This collection was part of a larger collection, a significant element of which formed an international award winning exhibition display at London 2010. Many interesting items inc. 1917 cover to Paris with Official 'Board of Trade' cachet showing the Rose logo as well as 'London W.C.
