Type P2 with Jamaica at Foot. 1840 (Jan.) and 1842 (Mar.) entire letters from Port Antonio, the first headed "Stoney Hill", to London, rated "Paid 7½" (deleted) and re-rated UK from a single "1/-" to a double rate Packet letter being charged 2/- with the 1/- cancelled by Inspectors Crown and showing fair despatch datestamp at foot, the second to a Lieut. in the 3rd. West Indian Regiment at Port Royal, marked "Paid 6d" and with a good strike in blue (one of only two examples recorded) and Jamaica Paid PD5 datestamp in red. An attractive pair

Type P2 with Jamaica at Foot. 1851 (13 Oct.) entire letter from the Colonial Bank at Kingston to Salt Gut Post Office by the Northside Road to Green Island and redirected to Pear Tree Grove Post Office on the same road back towards Kingston, rated "10d" comprising 6d. for a single letter carried between 60 and 100 miles plus 4d. for the extra 28 miles from Salt Gut to Pear Tree Grove and showing, on reverse, a fair strike of the Salt Gut datestamp (4.10) alongside Kingston (K7c) despatch datestamp; filing crease between the two datestamps. The sole recorded example of the Salt Gut datestamp. Photo

Later Types. 1861 (23 Apr.) entire letter from Savannah La Mar to London, marked "per packet pd" and "Paid 6d." with despatch datestamp used at a time following the loss of the "A75" obliterator in early 1861, despatch, Kingston and Jamaica Paid (both 24.4) datestamps, all on face. Few examples recorded of this rare provisional usage. Photo. .
Note: At this time it appears that stamped letters were discouraged and the old system of cash-paid letters was reintroduced for a short time. See December 1994 BCP article (Image1)
