Incoming Mail. From Brazil. 1869 (Apr.) soldiers envelope "From John Clouies Seaman H.M. Ship Anegaera Rio de Janeiro South America" to a brother Corporal Thomas Cloues of the 84th. Regiment at Newcastle, Kingston, countersigned by the Commanding Officer, carried to London and bearing G.B. 1d. rose-red cancelled with indistinct numeral, then forwarded to Jamaica, Kingston datestamp (22.5) on reverse. From Cuba. 1876 (12 Sept.) entire letter from Cienfuegos "p Alicante via Habana" to Kingston, bearing Cuba 50c. blue in combination with Jamaica 2d. rose and 4d. brown-orange all cancelled by oval of thin bars and with despatch datestamp at foot, rated "5" in pencil and with light Jamaica "ship letter" handstamp, Kingston datestamp (27.9) on reverse; filing creases cross both Jamaica adhesives and faults on reverse though very rare. Grant at Spanish Town, bearing 80c. rose (2) lightly cancelled and showing despatch datestamp, boxed "pd", London Paid (31.12?) and arrival datestamp, all on face, Kingston datestamp (23.1) on reverse. Photo Note: Sir John Peter Grant was the first Governor under the Crown Colony Regime which lasted from 1866 until 1884 with the Governor having absolute power. He laid the foundations of the modern Jamaica by improving the legal system, establishing local councils, an all island Police force, a local medical system and the Rio Cobre water system. He also transferred the seat of Government from Spanish Town to Kingston(Image1)

From Haiti. 1880 (24 Dec.) envelope to the Cashier Island Treasury, Kingston, handstamped "abm n. crosswell, port-au-prince" on flap and forwarded by the same company, possibly privately, to Jamaica, put into the post there and registered at Port Royal, bearing 2d. rose (2) each cancelled "A67" and showing oval-framed "jamaica/registered" datestamp at left, large manuscript ""8" additionally tying the adhesives and suggesting that the item may have been compulsorily registered as addressed to the Treasury and possibly having contained money. From The United Kingdom. 1874 (3 Mar.) envelope (opened-out) from Leeds to Watsons Hill Post Office, bearing 1d. rose-red pair (defect between at top) cancelled with "447" duplex, showing "exc deficient postage/oz british share of fine" handstamp completed for 10d. and 6d. respectively for a total of "1/4" subsequently deleted and replaced with "1/14" in blue crayon to include the Jamaica inland postage, the reverse with a further "1/10 to Pay/Watsons Hill" alongside Kingston (20.4) and Watsons Hill (21.4, crossed by tear) datestamps, the earliest recorded example of this datestamp; a little soiled though a most unusual deficiently franked cover.
